The warmer weather this time of year makes me want to hang out with friends and eat and drink and just have fun. But of course I always have to add a little DIY element. These DIY colorful modern cheese knives are so cute and perfect for a summer charcuterie board! I love how the little colorful balls look with all the food on the cheese board, don’t you?!

Materials to make your own DIY colorful modern cheese knives:

Begin by working 1/4 of a package of clay to soften it up. Then roll it into a ball. Repeat with all your other colors. I wanted a few shades of clay not available in the packages, so I mixed yellow and pink to make orange, and turquoise, white, and yellow to make mint.

Once the balls are all rolled, use a toothpick to add a crosshatch to the balls where they touch each other, then press the balls together gently. Next, press the ends of the cheese knive blanks into one end of the clay ball handle. Use the toothpick to press into the opposite end of the handle to keep the balls all together.

Once the handles are assembled, place them on a baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes in an oven at 230F, then remove and let cool. Once cooled, you can add a coat of varnish, then let dry.

Are these DIY colorful modern cheese knives not the cutest ever?! And they go perfectly with my DIY monstera leaf cheese board! If the balls aren’t your thing, you can make any shape or design you want for the handle. And for those of you wondering about food safety. FIMO polymer clay is non toxic and once baked leaves no residue and safe to use around food.
