Mother’s day is almost here and giving flowers for the occasion is almost always a go to. But this year, why not add a little more color to the bouquet and DIY graffiti flower vases to hold the blooms? This is a project that is perfect for using up leftover cans of spray paint you have laying around and any thrift store vases. Who knew graffiti could looks so pretty?!
While I tried to spell out words like love and Mom on my vases initially, they just weren’t wide enough and my handwriting is no where near graffiti artist level. So instead, I just went with the bright overlapping bands of color and splatters. If you have ever been to Austin, the Hope graffiti park walls were my inspiration and their years of spray painted layers of color.
Materials to make your own DIY Graffiti Flower vases:
- Glass vases
- Leftover spray paint (Montana Gold is my favorite to use)
Begin by placing your vases outside on a protected surface. Then just spray away with your spray paint. I made bands of color first, then came back with bursts, and then stripes. To finish off the vases, I gave them a splatter look by half holding down the spray nozzle at an angle to make the spray paint sputter out of the can onto the vase. Once I like the look of them, I let the vases sit for 24 hours to cure, then they were ready to use. The spray paint can get sticky on the bottom, so I recommend glueing on a piece of cork or felt to prevent the paint on the bottom of the vase from sticking to surfaces.
Once complete, add your flowers for mom (or your favorite lady, even if it is yourself), and enjoy the super colorful pop from these abstract DIY graffiti flower vases!
