DIY Holly Light Bulb Garland

Kara Whitten

Who says holly has to be red and green? Well, I know nature does, but you know I love giving things a new color pallete and holly just happens to be on the list today. I changed the red berries into all shades of red, pink, and coral and the leaves into shades of green and mint for a more colorful and modern look. This DIY holly light bulb garland is perfect for draping over your mantel or on a shelf (it would look so cute in a kids room too!) for the holidays. And this tutorial can be as easy or complex as you want to make it! So it is totally makeable by anyone.

Materials to make your own DIY Holly Light Bulb Garland:

Begin by spraying the fabric balls with spray adhesive and then give them a sprinkling of glitter. Let dry and then give them a coat of clear matte varnish. Once dry, assemble your bright lab string lights by poking the light bulb into the fabric ball and hang.

Next, cut out holly leaf shapes from the card stock and use hot glue to attach them to the fabric balls.

You can do different colored leaves for different colored “holly” and fill the whole strand or just pick an choose a few balls to get the holly treatment like I did.

Aren’t the string lights so cute as glittery holly? Did you know you can even use these string lights to decorate your tree or stair garland? Now that would be festive!

Oh and in case you are curious about those holly balloons you see, I just tied three 5″ balloons together and then used a low temp glue gun to attach paper holly leaves to the clusters. Then I used removable glue dots to stick them to the wall. Wouldn’t they be fun covering a wall for a holiday party photo booth backdrop?
