DIY Pencil Planter

Kara Whitten

Everyone has a shabby old planter or two lying around, right? Well, in this case, I turned a basic planter into an adorable back-to-school themed pencil planter in just a few steps! It just so happened that my planter was hex-shaped, which added an authentic touch to the pencil design, but this DIY would work just as well with a round planter. Head over here to see the full DIY video!

I used a few colors of craft paint and silver foil temporary tattoo paper to get this look. Perfect for any teachers in your life!

Supplies:

Instructions:

Step 1: Paint the planter, making sure to delineate the tip, body, and eraser end of your pencil. I chose to make the bottom the tip, painting it a light tan color. The largest section was the yellow body, followed up by a pale pink eraser at the top.

Step 2: Cut out a strip of the silver foil tattoo paper and stick it around the planter between the yellow and pink sections. Press a wet paper towel against it for about 30 seconds, then remove.

Step 3: Add a set of pretty pens or some soil and your favorite plant. You’re all set for gifting!
